RESOLUTION NO. 13-043

Isabella Reservation, Michigan

  • The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan ("Tribe") is a federally recognized sovereign Indian Tribe organized under a Constitution and By-Laws ratified by the Tribe on November 4, 1986, pursuant to Public Law 99-346; and
  • The governing body of the Tribe is the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council ("Tribal Council"); and
  • The Tribe recognizes the common struggle of indigenous peoples everywhere to secure their treaty rights, land claims and self determination; and
  • The Tribe recognizes the First Nations peoples and Tribal peoples were the first inhabitants of North America long before the establishment of the nations known as Canada and the United States of America; and
  • The Tribe recognizes a deep cultural and historic inter-related kinship with Canadian First Nations people; and
  • The Tribe supports the Western Cree Tribal Council and other First Nations in their struggle against Bill C45, and other issues related to self governance, environmental protection and natural resource protection.

NOW BE IT RESOLVED: that the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan hereby officially supports the Canadian First Nations and their people in their ongoing struggle to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, to oppose damaging legislation and to successfully advocate for their sovereign rights.

CERTIFICATION

The foregoing Resolution was duly adopted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council with a quorum being present during a Special Meeting on the 10th day of January, 2013 by a vote of 8 for, 0 against, and 0 abstaining.
