Starkey honored with March 12 "Eagle Leadership Award

Afterschool Program: Kickboxing and Dancing

Saginaw Chippewa Parks and Recreation offered a new event for Tribal youth Wednesday, March 7, from 4:30-5:30pm. At P&R's invitation the Kickboxing and Dancing Skits afterschool event was led by Nimkee Fitness' Jayme Green. P&R Youth Coordinator Kevin Ricketts said it was a trial program and went over well.

The SCIT Afterschool Program "Eagle Leadership Award" student for the week of February 6, 2012 is Lexi Weekley. She received her recognition from AOVWS Okima Veteran and Elder Mike Perez, who was joined in the brief ceremony by his brother and fellow Ogitchedaw Veteran David Perez and Lexi's classmates. SCIT Afterschool Program Enrolls 40 Students

Two delays caused by a flu virus outbreak and a winter school closing did not deter the Parks & Recreation department on enrolling 40 students for the SCIT Afterschool Program. Tribal Council received a proposed program overview during a Tribal Administrative meeting and Tribal Chief Dennis Kequom, Sr. and his fellow Council members were at a consensus that the newly created Parks & Recreation program is on the right path. Pool players lend a hand to the SCIT afterschool program

Imagine having a chance to play with some of the top professional billiard players in the world and being able to brag about it. With the combine help of Ronnie Ekdahl, Parks and Recreations Director, and the generosity of Raul Venegas, Marketing Director of the Soaring Eagle Casino these two were able to make this trip a reality for 20 students in the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe's (SCIT) afterschool program. The chosen youth for the Monday January 30, 2012 SCIT Afterschool Program “Eagle Leadership Award” goes to Jacob Quigno-Grundahl! Jacob has been chosen by staff for having good behavior, good cooperation, team spirit, for encouraging his peers to participate in activities and for following directions well. Jacob was also chosen for being positive, always having a smile on his face, and most importantly for showing leadership for doing his homework and for being willingly ready to participate in all of the After School Program activities.
