Afterschool Youth get the "411" on Energy Drinks

On Oct. 16th, the SCIT Afterschool Program had two special guests from Nimkee Public Health who gave an educational presentation on energy drinks. Nimkee Public Health Educator Robyn Grinzinger introduced Central Michigan University student intern Caitlin Hills who delivered an excellent presentation on what youth should know about energy drinks. Baseball Park Cleanup

On Sunday, April 22 starting at 1pm, there will be a community effort to clean up the baseball fields at Broadway Park and Little Elk's Park. SCIT Eagles has baseball teams ready to compete in the Union Township Kids Little League and we want to represent our Tribe with the best facilities possible. Bring your family and help paint the dugouts and clean the grounds. SCIT Parks & Recreation is providing a cookout after the clean-up for all our volunteers. (-More-)


Youth Basketball Tournament

The SCIT Parks & Recreation department is having its 9th Annual Saginaw Chippewa Youth Basketball Tournament at Mt. Pleasant High School on May 5 and 6. There are three divisions of competition for boys and girls teams (11 and under, 12 to 14, 15 to 18 year old). Please see attached flyer for details.


Parks Family Tourney Makes a "Striking" Impression

On March 24, the SCIT Parks & Recreation Eagles Nest Family Bowling Tournament made a striking impression upon young and old alike. The tourney offers two levels of competition: the community youth enjoyed a first, second and third place trophy division and the adults found themselves vying for a share of $665 in prize money.(-More-)


2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship

The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Parks & Recreation men's basketball six team winter league is now concluded. There were plenty of fast breaks and slam dunks to highlight the season for the six teams. Read the Men's Winter Basketball League season recap.


Family Bowling Tournament

Attention Keglers! (That's bowlers for you non-league folks). The SCIT Parks & Recreation department is hosting a family bowling tournament on Saturday, March 24 at Chippewa Lanes in Mt. Pleasant. Your afternoon of family fun begins with registration at 12 noon. We will have plenty of trophies, side jackpots, cash prizes, a 50/50 and a striking amount of door prizes! Adults bowl for $20 per person and youth (under 17) roll for $15.Come have your family be visiting team at Chippewa Lanes for another Rec-tacular event!(-More-)


Parks & Rec Cheer Red Wings at Hockeytown

On Sunday March 4, approximately 50 SCIT community members attended the Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit. The Detroit Red Wings faced off against their Central Division, Western Conference rivals, the Chicago Black Hawks. (-More-)


Detroit Pistons Bus Trip

Friday, March 23rd at 7:30pm, Watch the Detroit Pistons Face the Miami Heat. tickets can be purchased for the Parks and Rec dept. for $50 each. Included with each purchase is a ticket for the event and a Pistons merchandise voucher. Transportation is provided and will depart from the Eagle's nest at 4pm. Two tickets per person and must present a tribal id/employee badge at time of purchase. ** Will not hold Tickets**

Second Youth Baseball Sign -up

Thursday, March 15th at the Eagles Nest Tribal Gym from 5 to 7pm, there will be a second sign-up for Farm League (ages 7-8) and National League (ages 9-10) baseball players. We would really like to field an ages 11-12 year old American league team. SCIT Parks & Recreation is working with Coach Jim MacLean and the Union Township Kids Little League. The player registration fee is $25 per child and $15 each for any additional child.

Family Snowsnake Trip

On Feb. 20th, Tribal Operations and the Saginaw Chippewa Academy may have been closed for Presidents Day but SCIT Parks & Recreation was open and had another family event at Snowsnake. Survivor Island Family Fun Day" Brings Community Together

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, the Eagles Nest Tribal Gym went under a transformation for the after school kickoff program. The "Survivor Island Family Fun Day" was a community event sponsored by SCIT Parks & Recreation, Nimkee Public Health, Tribal Police, Tribal Fire, SCIT Risk Management, Tribal Library and the Youth Task Force.

Halloween Events makes for a family "Fright-Out"

It was a splendid time at the Youth Task Force's Trunk or Treat and Parks and Recreation's Halloween Haunt on Oct. 28th from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe's Fire Department truck blocked off a part of East Broadway and vehicles started lining up and getting their bags of candy opened for the little ghosts and goblins to come by with their bags opened and to say those three magic words, trick or treat.

Council obligates 5M for School/Youth Center funding

At a Wednesday, Nov. 2 Special Council session, a motion made by Sheila Leaureaux and supported by Charmaine Benz, received unanimous approval (8-0 vote) to obligate five million dollars from the Tribal Housing and Land investment account for the School/Youth Center project.
