Tribe Prepares for upcoming election

As of the Sept. 10 voter registration deadline, 493, or 69 percent, of the 716 total enrolled District 1 members are eligible to vote. District 2 (Saganing) has 31 registered voters, representing 74 percent of the 42 enrolled members. Of the 1,394 District 3 (At-Large) members, only 726, or 52 percent, are eligible to vote in the primary election. On Sept. 25, an official candidates list will be posted.

Judge orders constitutional reform effort to continue; Tribal leaders say decision is flawed and should be appealed by the Interior

A federal judge has recently ruled in favor of a lawsuit which orders the secretary of the Interior to conduct an election of a proposed new Tribal constitution for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.
