Court to decide on legal request after primary election

A Tribal court judge is expected to rule Oct. 21—10 days after the primary election—over unresolved issues concerning a District 1 candidate and her attempt to circumvent and abolish mandatory drug testing for Tribal Council hopefuls.

The matter is expected to be heard before Saginaw Chippewa Community Court Judge Bruce E. Plackowski, who originally ruled against Delores Jackson’s request for a temporary preliminary injunction on Sept. 8.

District 1 and 3 candidates set for Nov. 8 general election; protests expected to be filed

All nine District 1 incumbents will be on the general election ballot after slightly more than half of the registered voters whittled the choices from 57 to 20 on Oct. 11.

Timothy Davis, who has served on several Tribal Councils, was the election’s top vote getter with 203. Of the 809 registered voters in the district, 439 participated in the primary election for a 54 percent turnout. Results are unofficial and there is a seven-day protest period before they are certified. Several protests are expected to be filed over the election.
