Great Job Little Traverse Bay Band —
Once Again Winners of the Michigan Indian Family Olympics!
The Michigan Indian Family Olympics Committee would
like to congratulate the Little Traverse Bay Band for
their victory at this year’s event that took
place on Friday, July 16 at Central Michigan University’s
Bennett Track. With over 170 participants representing
LTBB, they were able to place in enough events to dominate
the competition. The Grand Traverse Bay Band of Ottawa
and Chippewa Indians placed second with 203 points
and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe finished third
with 152 team points.
A record turn out of 518 participants made for a busy
day. The total number of participants was about 80
more than anticipated. This event has grown in the
last few years by almost 45% with around 300 participants
in 2001 to the 518 we had this year. The Michigan Indian
Family Olympics committee will be looking to build
on the recent success to incorporate more events and
more organizations to help make this event even more
spectacular.
This was my fifth year being involved with the MIFO
and my fourth being the event coordinator of this wonderful
event. Without the event staff and the various tribal
departments plus CMU, this year’s event would
have not taken place. It is truly remarkable to have
the kind of support we have received to make this event
such a success. Thanks to everyone who helped out!

This year's event was a great success
and the Michigan Indian Family Olympics Committee is
already working towards making next year's event even
better!
