Joseph V. Sowmick - April 07, 2016

In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joined the Saginaw Chippewa Academy students, teachers and families at their March 2016 Student of the Month Celebration.  SCA Curriculum Instruction Coordinator Kelli Cassaday gave a welcome address and recognized Tribal Council members in attendance (Kenneth Sprague, Candace B. Benzinger, Amanda Oldman, Diana Quigno-Grundahl and Gayle Ruhl).

The Mino Ode Singers offered a welcome song and an Honor Song for the following student recipients:  Pre-K Gabriel Quigno, Kindergarten Aaron Jaso, 1st Grade Prentiss Jones, 2nd Grade Carmela Negrete-Ledesma, 3rd Grade Robert Saunders, 4th Grade Lawrence Hinmon, 5th Grade Layla Paul and 6th Grade Allen Pego.  The celebration concluded with a blessing for the gathering from SCA Anishinabe Biimaadziwin Teacher Joe Syrette in Anishnaabemowin followed by a sumptuous breakfast prepared by SCA “Lunch Lady” Bridget Fairchild and her staff.

Before the SCA Student of the Month Celebration, SCA Teacher Assistant Laurie Barber was awarded Educator of the Month by Cassaday and Education Director Melissa Montoya.  Barber has been employee through SCA for over fifteen years and her Educator of the Month interview will be featured in your upcoming issue of the Tribal Observer.
