Construction Update 10-05-2015
Joseph V. Sowmick - October 05, 2015
In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer is tracking ongoing construction at two Reservation locations; one at the intersection of Leaton and Tomah Roads and the other at the intersection of Venture Way and Enterprise Drive (near the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College and Petro Plaza entrance). Prein & Newhof Contractor Bob Ouwinga informs there will be closures at the Leaton and Tomah Road intersections from the east and west and they will be doing more work at Aagimaak Road south Yah Bay Estates entrance.
“Construction plans for the week of Oct. 5th include the contractor plans to continue on the grading of mainline of Leaton today and possibly tomorrow. There will be a bulldozer working on the slopes also,” Ouwinga said. “They will also do some grading at Aagimaak south entrance today. The community should look for complete closures at Tomah Road intersection as early as tomorrow. Keeping pace with our schedule, we hope this week there will be a concrete crew in to finish the concrete curb and gutter where needed and do some of the flat work in the drives.”
SCIT Community Engineer Don Seal also requests a reminder that Leaton Road continues to be an active construction zone and to please avoid this area unless you live within the zone. “We are having more issues of people and Tribal vehicles just driving through. We do not want anyone to get hurt and we appreciate your patience around the guys doing the grading,” Seal said. “ If you see the grader working an area, please re-route your vehicle and avoid the area. The less time construction workers are worried about traffic, the better the job will be. It does take time to get a great ride on the grade and that's what their trying to achieve.”
Expect construction to affect your travel to the SCTC campus on the Reservation. SCTC Administrative Assistant Tracey Defeyter mentions for the community to be advised that the only way to get to the SCTC West & East buildings is through Enterprise Drive off of M-20 (next to Lonestar Restaurant). Team Observer will continue to provide updates as soon as we are informed by the SCIT Planning Department and the construction team.
