Babysitting Basics Course coming soon at the Public Health Department

Joseph V. Sowmick - August 11, 2014

In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joins with the Nimkee Public Health Department in promoting their upcoming Babysitting Basics Course scheduled for Monday Morning, August 25th from 9AM - 12Noon.  The course will take place at the Nimkee Public Health Kitchen, 2591 South Leaton Road in Mount Pleasant.

“Although the course is designed primarily for both boys and girls ages 11 and older, this online course will prepare students to be better babysitters and the $25.00 fee will be waived for Tribal youth who come and participate,”  Nimkee Healthy Start Child Nurse Anna Hon said.  “Topics will include how to provide care for infants and children; how to stay safe; what to do in an emergency; how to choose age-appropriate and Native American culturally appropriate activities.”

Students will be able to recognize and handle a variety of behaviors and students will also learn the basics of starting a babysitting business. The course consists of six interactive modules featuring video, activities, games and tools babysitters can use to build their knowledge and skills and manage their babysitting business.

The course, which includes a final exam at the end, takes about 3 hours to complete. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a printable certificate from Nimkee.
