Rally of Support on Michigan Indian Day

Joseph V. Sowmick - September 27, 2013

In an effort to provide regular bonus coverage throughout the month, Team Observer joins our Tribal Education Department and Saginaw Chippewa Academy in support of Veronica Brown on Michigan Indian Day. Native Nations across Turtle Island are showing their support for the rights of our Native children and the laws that are intended to protect them. The SCIT effort is bolstered by the nationwide support of Idle No More who initiated the call to action. The group started in a good way and offered song, dance, tobacco, and prayers for Veronica, her real family, and all of our young people that are in need. Mide' Elder and Tribal Chaplain Steve Pego spoke healing words to the assemblage, joined by Tribal Education Director Melissa Montoya. The group marched in solidarity from Tribal Operations down East Broadway to the recently constructed SCA School Lodge. On this day of observance, please keep Veronica Brown and all the fires that are being lit across Turtle Island in your prayers.
