The annual spring feast ceremonies on the Isabella Reservation signal a new beginning for creation.

This year's Spring Feast is scheduled for May 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elijah Elk Cultural Center.

"This is the beginning of the Anishinabe new year," said Seventh Generation Program Coordinator Beaver Pelcher. "It is our first celebration of the year to thank the Creator for new life, new plants and animals."

Guest speakers include Michelle Wellman, Bucko Teeple, Jake Pine, as well as Andrew and Kathy Le-Blanc.

"This is a birthday celebration-this spring feast," explained Teeple during the event two years ago. "We've survived another winter. No matter how we walk on the earth, we could give a prayer. It's thanking the Creator for bringing us that new day. It's asking the Creator to provide for us with something."
