Minnie Jackson

Minnie Jackson, 99, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Minnie will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 19 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Friday, August 19 from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Sasiwaan's Early Childhood Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Minnie was born on September 18, 1911 in Mecosta County, the daughter of Karb and Sara (Fisher) Crampton. She graduated high school from the Mt. Pleasant Indian School. Minnie married Clayton Eugene Jackson, who preceded her in death in 1984. Minnie was the oldest living member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. She worked as a house keeper for families in East Lansing and Okemos for many years. She has been recognized for her strawberry ash baskets and bead work. She could fluently speak the Ojibway language, enjoyed cooking, fishing, and watching Nascar, especially number 24, Jeff Gordon.

Minnie is survived by her grandchildren, Jody Clark of Mason, LuAnn (Russell) Philips of Weidman, and Mark Jackson of Lansing; 15 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Eugene Jackson; children, Ruby Wetherell, Clayton Eugene Jackson Jr., and Eliza Bonnie Jackson; and 4 brothers.
