Hermes J Otto

April 18, 1924 - July 14, 2011

Hermes J. Otto of Albion, passed away July 14, 2011 at the Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, Michigan.

Hermes was born in 1924 to Foster and Christine Otto in Petoskey, Michigan. As a young man, he served his Country in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific. On April 22, 1979, he married Mabel Chapman. She survives. Hermes worked as a fork lift operator at Albion Industries until his retirement. Some cherished memories the family have of Hermes are his proud heritage as a Saginaw Chippewa, his love of hunting and fishing, and his ability as an artist to paint and draw wonderful pictures and paintings. He also enjoyed bird watching and at one time was a 4-H Leader teaching Crocheting.

He is survived by wife Mabel, daughters: Marsha Bane, Christine Sevener, Teresce Seume, Nancy Haas, Kay Sheppard, Grace Conklin, Janie McKelbey, sons: Gary Otto, Steven Otto, Howard Scott Otto, Martin Otto, Joe Otto, Ben Otto, Roy Vest, Allen Vest, Jerome Vest and Earl Vest, Four sisters, two brothers, many grandchildren, great grand's and great great grand's. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Visitation for Hermes will be Sunday, July 17, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, 49224. Funeral Service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 18, with Rev. David Trammell officiating. Service will include Military Honors and Native American Burial Rites. Burial will take place at Albion Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Donors Choice.
