Services: Arrangements are entrusted to Bartle Funeral Home in Liberty, Ky., where visitation and wake will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Liberty, by the Rev. Patrick J. Dolan. Interment will be in Bethelridge Cemetery.

 

Joyce Ranee Godbey, 80, formerly of Liberty, passed away at home in Gardendale, Ala., on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

Joyce was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., the daughter of the late John D. and Julia Shawboose Henderson. After her childhood and nursing school, she traveled extensively in Europe and the U.S. with her military husband and family. Joyce was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan and was an accomplished artist, nurse and Scout leader for many years. She also served as City Clerk in Liberty, Ky., for several years. In retirement, Joyce enjoyed fishing, traveling and charming others with her wry sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marvin; and son, Trace Edward.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jane Elizabeth Jolly (Michael) of Gardendale, Ala.; sons, Mark Kevin of San Ramon, Calif., and Steven Wesley (Maria) of Falls Church, Va.; daughter, Lenore Annette Davis (Jamie) of East Bernstadt, Ky.; grandchildren, Caroline, Erin, William, Elizabeth, Matthew, Megan, Charlie and Adam; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Jasper; sister, Gloria Kirby of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and many, nieces, nephews, friends and Clubby.
