MARY J. ASHMUN of E. Tawas (formerly of Montrose), age 78, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, October 21 at O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Rob and Gloria King are officiating with Chippewa tribal rituals. Ms. Ashmun is to be interred at Montrose Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 PM, Wednesday from 1-8pm and Thursday from 11am until time of services at 2pm. Contributions may be made to Montrose Eagles for funeral dinners for those in need.
Mary was born November 2, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant, MI to the late Edward and Bessie (Bennett) Ashmun and was a resident of Montrose most of her life. Mrs. Ashmun was a nurses Aid for 25 years at various nursing homes retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Montrose Fraternal Order of Eagles and had attended Montrose Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Christian Faith Church in Montrose.
Her brother, William Jones, and her infant sister, Helen Bennett, preceded her in death.

Children - Helen (David) Black of Tawas, Andrew (Christine) Byce of Hale, Marcia (Tony) Lewis of Chesaning, Richard (Diane) Byce of Battle Creek, Cheryl (Tom) Dixon of National City, Ann (Daniel) Orr of Montrose, Marion (Craig) Roth of Montrose. Grandchildren (12), great-grandchildren (8) and "dozens of cousins."
