This year’s 2015 Saginaw Chippewa Annual Powwow “Honoring the Water” is just around the corner and the Powwow Committee is certain there are going to be calls inquiring about this event. So here is a little frequently asked questions (FAQ) sheet we have prepared for the community.

Who can I ask general questions to?

Any powwow committee member should be able to answer any questions.

Who can we ask questions about vendor spaces?

That would be Powwow Committee Vendor Coordinator Mary Perez at (989) 775-4026 or if not available at that number please call her cell 989-854-4370.

Are vendor spaces still available?

Food Vendors are closed; but Craft Vendors are still open.

Is there an admission fee to get into the powwow?

No admission fee

Is there a parking fee?

There is no parking fee, however, there are designated parking areas for those needing assistance and there are powwow workers who will be directing people to the parking areas.  Remember there is road construction so there will be detour signs leading to the Broomfield Road entrance.

What time does everything start?

Friday – Grand Entry is at 7pm

Saturday - two Grand Entry sessions at 12 noon and 6pm

Sunday – 12 noon Grand Entry

In case of rain, is there a rain site if the powwow has to move indoors?

Yes, the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Entertainment Hall at 6800 Soaring Eagle Boulevard is the designated rain out location.  The Powwow Committee will make the call to move the event indoors if necessary and the vendors will coordinate directly with Mary Perez to be assigned their indoor vendor locations.

Is there going to be fireworks this year and when?

We are planning to have fireworks that will occur on Friday night July 24 at dusk.  The Powwow Committee will be in communication with the Saginaw Chippewa Fire Department to inform them when the Friday night powwow festivities have wrapped up.  The fireworks will be launched in a secure area near the wastewater plant on Tomah Road ¼ mile from the powwow grounds.

Will there be a designated first aid location on the powwow grounds?

Yes.  The Nimkee Clinic will have a medical tent located near the powwow grounds entrance and there will also be emergency personnel from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police and Tribal Fire Departments on location also.

Will there be a Sacred Fire on the powwow grounds and where is it located?

Yes.  The Sacred Fire will be available and is located near the eastern door where the powwow dancers and dignitaries enter the arena.  Miigwetch to Elder Bert Hunt and the Fire Keepers for respectfully offering this in a good way.
