March 5, 2012: Staff Shoutout - Youth Facilities Assistant Chase Owl

I was still a baby when I hit the ice for the first time. Almost as soon as I could walk I was learning to ice skate. With growing up in the great state of Minnesota J, it was only natural that all of my sports life was dedicated to playing hockey. I remember every March watching the High School State Hockey Tournament on television and wishing that some day I would to be able to play on TV. For me the title "Hockeytown" has always been the nickname for a small town in Minnesota called Warroad. When moving to Michigan I found out there is also another town that calls itself the "Hockeytown", Detroit, Michigan.

I was able to join in on the trip down to "Hockeytown" on March 4th to watch to Detroit Redwings take on the Chicago Blackhawk's. Joe Louis Arena was absolutely buzzing with hungry hockey fans, not only excited Redwings fans were in attendance but also dedicated Blackhawk's fans were of abundance. With this game being an "original six" rivalry game it is only to be expected that the arena would be full of excited hockey fans. The game was intense on both ends of the ice with the score ending in a Blackhawks 2-1 win over the Redwings. There were exciting hits, scoring chances, and even a couple scraps to top off an all around great hockey game.
