SCIT Parks & Recreation hosts "Spartan Spectacular" at the Eagles Nest Tribal Gym

On Dec. 28, the SCIT Parks & Recreation department hosted the "Spartan Spectacular" at the Eagles Nest Tribal Gym. The event featured a basketball skills contest complete with a free throw competition, three point shootout and an agility skills competition.

In the 17 and under category, Hugh MacLaren was first place in the free throw competition, followed by Albert Shomin and Kaleena Ricketts in third place. In the three point shootout, MacLaren took the gold, Jacqueline Vasquez was second and Dylan Derus a close third place finish. In the skills competition for the 17 and under, MacLaren completed his sweep of first place with Ricketts placing second and Derus third. In the 18 and older category, Brian Loney was first place in the free throw competition, followed by Rosemary Saboo and Roger Tackett in third place. In the three point shootout, Saboo took the gold, Monica Gonzalez was second and Tackett with a third place finish. In the skills competition for the 18 and older, Loney landed another first place finish with Tackett placing second and Gonzalez third. The "Spartan Spectacular" concluded with the ESPN Big Ten opener with the MSU Spartans playing against the unbeaten Indiana Hoosiers.

The 18 foot screen from Behavioral Health made the event more spectacular with Public Relations donating door prizes of MSU logo merchandise for the event. The MSU Spartans and Coach Tom Izzo won the Breslin Center battle over Coach Tom Crean's Hoosiers by a score of 80-65
