EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
The Employee Relation area of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian
Tribe consists of employee relation managers, employee
relation assistants and administrative assistants.
The employee relation managers' primary duties consist of
advising and coaching management and ensuring that tribal
policies and procedures are adhered to. Their staff play
key roles supporting the employee relation effort and filling
in during absences. Our approach to employee relations is
proactive in nature by bringing ER services to the manager
rather than waiting until a manager brings an issue to HR.
Our ER managers spend about 80% of their time on the floor
talking with managers regarding employee/employer issues
and concepts.
RECRUITMENT & HIRING
The Recruitment and Hiring area of the Saginaw Chippewa
Indian Tribe consists of a director, recruiters
and coordinators. By developing a centralized recruitment
and hiring area, it has allowed Human Resources to promote
and control fairness and consistency with regards to posting,
advertising, screening and hiring throughout the tribe.
Our recruiters, assisted by the employment coordinators,
take a proactive approach to seek and attract potential
candidates that will benefit the many departments and programs
of our tribe.
TRAINING &
DEVELOPMENT
The Training and Development area of the Saginaw Chippewa
Indian Tribe consists of a director, training
managers and training instructors. It is this
area that will serve a key function in molding and developing
both new and seasoned employees into confident and valuable
staff members. The training and development area will facilitate
new employee orientation, supervisory training, succession
planning programs, computer training, and all other training
programs developed that generally apply on a tribe-wide
basis. The training and development area will also track
all on-site and off-site training, and work with departments
to assist their development of specialized training.
COMPENSATION
The Compensation area of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe
consists of a director and coordinators. This
area will be the most controversial area within HR. The
compensation area will be the enforcer of the tribe's performance
management compensation program. This area will work closely
with the Training and Development area and the Recruitment
and Hiring area. Compensation is responsible for position
description development, facilitating performance reviews,
conducting wage surveys, maintaining our wage grids, positions
classification, FLSA exemption testing, facilitating and
overseeing the COLA, merit and promotional wage increases.
RISK MANAGEMENT & INSURANCE
The Risk Management and Insurance area consists of a director,
safety personnel, Workers' Compensation and
Property and Liability personnel, and Occupational
Nurses and Fringe Benefit personnel. The Risk
Management staff provides safety awareness and development
of safety practices that make our workplace a safe and comfortable
environment. Once again, Risk Management takes a proactive
approach to risk exposures and loss prevention. The insurance
side of Risk Management is responsible for negotiating premiums
with all of our insurance providers. They also facilitate
and oversee the fringe benefit enrollment of our employees.
OUTSOURCED SERVICES
Sometimes it makes more sense and is more cost effective
to outsource some of the HR services to outside professionals.
With that in mind, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe has
secured outside services dealing with unemployment insurance
and our Employee Assistance Program.
