The fourth annual Statewide Tribal Opioid Summit "Healing Our Families and Communities Together" was a two-day conference held on Wednesday, November 1, from 8 am - 4 pm and on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 8 am - 3 pm, at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Entertainment Hall.

Dr. Alex Elswick

Dr. Alex Elswick is a tireless advocate for people with substance use disorders. He currently serves the University of Kentucky as an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist for Substance Use Prevention and Recovery. Alex is a trained researcher, recovery coach, and mental health therapist, as well as the co-founder of Voices of Hope, a peer-driven recovery community organization. But most importantly, Alex is himself a person in long-term recovery from the chronic disease of addiction.

Jamaine Atkins
Peer Recovery


Jamaine Atkins is a person in long term recovery who has attained multiple year’s drug and alcohol free. He uses the gift of recovery to advocate for those in early recovery as a Certified Recovery Coach within the treatment court system, a safe housing provider and as a board member of the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals. Recovery is his life because recovery gave him a renewed life!
