On April 21, 2016, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort received two bomb threats.  The first one was received at 10:15 pm and another call shortly after from a female caller.  Following emergency protocol, the hotel, casino, slot palace and employees (approximately 2,500) were evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure everyone’s safety.  At 5:30 am the investigation was officially complete and all sites were cleared.  Tribal Police have indicated that a person of interest has been identified, however, due to the ongoing investigation no further details are available.

On site assisting Tribal Police and Tribal Fire were; Shepherd Police Department, Mt. Pleasant City Police, Michigan State Police Bomb Squad and K-9, Isabella County Sheriff’s Department, CMU Police, Mobile Medical Response (MMR), Emergency Management Center (EMC), Clare City Police Department, Isabella County Dispatch and Midland K-9 Bomb Dogs.  “We appreciate the multi-jurisdictional technical support and value the collaborative efforts by all agencies.” states Erik Rodriguez, Public Relations Interim Director.

“Our guests and employees will always remain a top priority and everything was done to ensure their safety.” states Frank Cloutier, Tribal Chief.   To reopen the casino after an incident of this magnitude takes strategic planning from casino/hotel management.  We plan to open later this morning once the appropriate measures have been completed.

Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is owned, operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan and is committed to being Mid Michigan’s premier entertainment destination.
