Sunday September 25, 2022 from 1:00pm-5:30pm Virtual workshop (1 hour lunch break for youth)
Youth can choose ONE of these Artists to work with. Here is a brief description of each artist and the workshop they will teach.
Ron "Kaboose" Wilson - Learn how to tap into your life story and pull out feelings and emotions. Lyrics are a powerful tool, not only to express, but to exhale the things we hold inside that affect us positively or negatively. We’ll collaborate as a group and put our stories together into a song or spoken word format, defining where we come from and who we are.
Lucia Gonzalez Ippolito - : The class I will be teaching will be a lesson on comic book making and cartoon drawing. I plan to give a brief history of Black/Brown cartoon/comic book artists. We will begin with warm up exercises for drawing and expressing feelings. I will show how to create storyboards and zines. The youth will learn different formulas for storytelling and depicting cartoons. And we will discuss and create what it means to be a superhero together.
Ras K'Dee - Native Hip Hop Workshop will create a collective song in 3 days. We will look at rhyme structure, through examples of spoken word, songs, live guitar, raps, and films, and learn how to infuse impactful messages into our rhymes. We will create a collective song and perform it live for the whole group.
