Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Judge Lectures at University of Limerick

On Wednesday 14th March, Judge Patrick Shannon, a Judge for the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan delivered a lecture in the School of Law. Judge Shannon provided an outline of Federal Indian Law which included discussion of sources of tribal sovereignty, the meaning of sovereignty, and tribal jurisdiction issues. Judge Shannon went on to deliver a paper titled ‘Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Commission and The Opioid Crisis in the United States’. The paper provoked discussion on the control of opioids, prescribing practices, and the impact of the opioid crisis on American Indians. 

The visit of Judge Patrick Shannon was facilitated by Dr Kathryn O’Sullivan and the guest lecture was organised by Dr John Lombard.
