"If we're not having a discussion, there's a problem. "

Students taking a class with instructor John Gerhard generally don’t want to miss out. Whether the subject is teamwork, guest service, or self improvement. John creates the kind of educational environment that draws students in. John wants participants to say “thank you and  you’ve opened my eyes on this subject.”

Training says John is where his passion is. “As a trainer, I can see people growing, gaining a level of understanding they didn’t have before. Every day, I have a direct impact on someone’s life. There’s nothing better than that. They come into my classroom with one view of the world and it’s my job to shift their focus so they start looking at things in a different way.” Many participants have visited John weeks and months after a class and said’ You’ve helped me through a rough spot, thank you.”

Making connections among students is vital to John. “It’s virtually mandatory that my students get to know each other, They need to be talking to each other and developing a sense of trust. If we’re not having a discussion, there’s a problem. Participants often develop such strong bonds that they organize organizational events outside of class and go out together after work. Participants often become fast friends, staying in close touch for a long periods of time.”

John has worked in the sales of manufactured goods as well as environmental services. He first worked for the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe in the Inventory Control Department. John mentions "This gave me a good picture of the inner workings of the casino which I believe helps give an insight into working with our associates. Working in HR Training and Development is a great fit for me to be able to share knowledge and help people." John looks forward to meet you and training you.
