TRIBE DISBURSES OVER $3 Mil TOTAL 2% FUNDS
On Thursday, May 28 the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe made it's semi-annual Two Percent Distributions to local governments and schools in the Isabella County area from a gathering in the Tribal Operations Seniors' Room. The Tribe disbursed a total of $2.6 million to those official entities. While still certainly a large infusion of funding for the institutions receiving it, as pointed out by Tribal Public Relations Director Joe Sowmick, this marks something like a 12 year low for distributions — just another sign of the stressed economic times the whole world is experiencing today.
"Our numbers [of customers] are staying steady, " said Sowmick. "But people are spending less — they're traveling less."
A similar affect was apparent with the Friday, May 29 distributions in the Saganing/Arenac Co. area. However, since the Saganing gaming facility, the Saganing Eagles Landing Casino, has only been open for a little over one year, there's not as long a baseline for comparison of highs and lows as provided by the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. The total distributions to the Saganing area were roughly 2/3 of a million dollars.
