Tribe Vindicated

In handling old casino/resort chemical spills

The Tribal Council for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe received a letter July 3, 2000 stating they were responsible in their handling of previous chemical spills at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. The Environmental Protection Agency researched all information and clearly stated in their letter the conclusion that the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe surpassed its responsibility to insure the health, safety and welfare of its people, patrons, and environment.

Frank J. Cloutier, spokesperson for the Tribe said “There is a certain amount of responsibility attached to any activity. I feel confident now as I have in the past that the current Tribal Council is doing everything within its power to create a healthy, safe, and secure environment for everyone. Perhaps this situation will help those ill informed individuals who brought about the question of contamination to a place where they feel responsible enough to research more in-depth prior to accusing anyone of wrong doing.”
