A Press Conference in Bay City
on Thursday June 8th at the Marquette Viaduct
construction site brought the Tribal Chief,
Phillip G. Peters Sr. and Bay City Mayor, Kathleen
Newsham together to sign a protocol that was
previously agreed upon between the two government
entities. This marked a historic beginning of
cooperation and future government-to-government
involvement on any number of issues facing the
communities today as they grow and develop.
"We have agreed to agree while maintaining the
respect and dignity of our ancestors," said
Tribal Spokesperson Frank Cloutier. It is hoped
that this effort will lead other communities
in Michigan to follow Bay City's lead in improving
its relationship with Indian Country throughout
Michigan.
