Calling all anglers!  Are you ready for some competition bass fishing?  The annual Tuesday Night Giigohn Fishing makes its return at Five Lakes on May 29th.  Follow all the action on the Parks website (contest rules will be posted by 5pm today).  Get your boat and tackle box together and join us for some Pure Michigan all summer long!

Aug. 14 fishing results from Five Lakes

Results from the "Tuesday Night Giigohn Fishing" at Five Lakes saw Lawrence "Smudge" Sprague net his tournament high 4th win ($115 first prize). The team of Roger Mowen and Kevin Ricketts took second while Elder Francis Redman placed third. With the shorter summer evenings, the August start times are adjusted for 30 minutes earlier with a 5:30pm launch. Remember, youth 16 and under get to fish for free and we always welcome those who would like to come and watch. Tomorrow, the outing returns to Budd Lake and Aug. 28 at Crooked Lake is your last chance to qualify for the Tribal Classic on Aug. 31st. Follow all the action on the Parks website. July 31 fishing results at Long Lake

The tribal anglers had another eventful evening at "Tuesday Night Giigohn Fishing." The first trip to Long Lake in Harrison netted Lawrence Sprague and Roger Mowen $90 and their third win for the season with a 7.4 lbs. catch. SECR Table Games employee Eric Sowmick and Scott Simon took second with 7.3 lbs. catch. The team of Tommy Wemigwans and Chris Schoenborn placed third with a 2.6 lbs. effort. Amos Cloud brought Lewis Sprague, Jr. and his son Samuel on the boat with their pet "nimoosh." The big catch of the night went to the team of Ronnie Ekdahl and Rosemary Saboo with their catch of 8 lbs. 7 oz. and 21" long (according to DNR and tournament rules, that's a keeper!). Congratulations to Ronnie, Rosemary and their new family member, Michael! Next event is the all-day outing on this Friday at Eight Point Lake with a 7am start. July 17 results at Big Evans Lake

On July 17, the flash monsoon rainstorm and lightning made for a dramatic finish for our seventeen fishermen at Big Evans Lake. The "Tuesday Night Giigohn Fishing" saw the team of Tommy Wemigwans and Chris Schoenborn net their second 1st place finish of the season. Their three bass weighed in at 5.3 lbs. and took the $160 winning catch. The team of Lawrence Sprague and Roger Mowen was a close second with two bass weighing in at 5.1 lbs. Sprague also had the catch of the night at 3.15 lbs. and 16 ½" (there was no third place finish). Remember, youth 16 and under get to fish for free and we always welcome those who would like to come and watch. Next event is back at Five Lakes in Clare County on July 24th. June 26 results at Crooked Lake in Clare County

The June 26 Tuesday Night Giigohn Fishing at Crooked Lake in Clare County had our season best turnout (20 anglers, with three youth competing)! Congratulations to the team of Coach Kevin Ricketts and Ronnie Ekdahl for their first place winning catch of three bass at 6.12 lbs. ($170). IT Support Services Supervisor Vinnie Kequom caught the largemouth bass of the day (2.44 lbs. and 16"). Kequom, his son, Hunter and SECR Surveillance employee Matt Rood took second place with two bass at 4.10 lbs. and won a $25 gift certificate from Eagle Valley Outfitters. After several re-checks, the team of Lawrence Sprague and Roger Mowen finished a close third with a 4.09 lb. catch and won a $10 gift certificate. June 22 results at Sanford Lake

Congratulations to the team of Coach Kevin Ricketts and Ronnie Ekdahl for their first place winning catch of five bass at 12.14 lbs. ($210) at the all day Giigohn Fishing Outing (Sanford Lake) on June 22nd. Lee Hutchins caught the largemouth bass of the day (3.61 lbs. and 19 ½"). The team of Lawrence Sprague and Roger Mowen took second place with five bass at 12 lbs. and won a $25 gift certificate from Eagle Valley Outfitters. The team of Dominic Shaffer, Tim Mandoka and Keith Bennett took third with a 10.54 lb. catch and won a $10 gift certificate. Fourteen fishermen enjoyed the sunny day at Sanford Lake. These lucky anglers were successful at the June 12 Budd Lake Tuesday Night Giigohn Fishing tournament. Coach Kevin Ricketts (left) took the $130 first place cash prize with these three beauties. The bass on Kevin's right was the largest catch of the evening and weighed in at 3.65 lbs. and 18 inches. SECR Table Games employee Eric Sowmick (center) won a $25 Eagle Valley Outfitters (EVO) gift certificate for his second place catch. Elder Francis Redman took third place and received a $10 EVO gift certificate. June 5th Halls Lake Bass Fishing Outing

Congratulations are in order for Tribal Giigohn Fisherman Lawrence Sprague, Jr. Larry took the $90 first prize for pulling out a 4.2 lb 19 inch largemouth bass from Halls Lake June 5th contest. Last week's winner, Francis Redman, finished in second place and won a $25 Sagamok Shell gift card. Tribal Elder George Sprague placed third and won a $10 gift certificate from Eagle Valley Outfitters.
