Community Garden Program 2012
Every spring Seventh Generation Program offers community members an opportunity to try their hand at organic gardening by providing free 15'x15' garden spaces already tilled and fertilized. With the high cost of food more and more families are looking for ways to reduce food costs and gardening can be a healthy and effective way to reduce your food costs. Clipping coupons or looking for generic brands can all help but growing your own vegetables and canning them for future use is a great way to save and get healthy foods.
Seventh Generation will have twenty-five (25) garden spaces available this year on a first-come first-serve basis, with tribal member receiving priority. A person could conceivably grow enough vegetables in one growing season to significantly reduce food cost and get healthy untainted foods in the process. Although gardening requires a lot of tending and attention such as weeding and watering the pay-off far outweighs the work. In fact most people find gardening to be a relaxing and rewarding activity that gets them out-of-doors with exercise and fresh air.
Sometime around harvest Seventh Generation will also conduct canning classes so you can preserve what you've grown for future use. Imagine, instead of running to the store for tomatoes you simply run to your pantry and breakout some of the fresh canned veggies you made right at home. So if your looking for something to add to your arsenal of other skills gardening can be an excellent way to save money, get fresh air and exercise. Registration for available spaces will begin on May 1st 2012 for anyone interested. Good luck
