BLACK, Helen Marie - of Montrose, age 7 4, died Friday, January 23, 2026 at Medi lodge of

Montrose. Honoring Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held at this

time. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future designation.

Helen was born December 26, 1951 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Russell Byce and Mary

Ashmun. She grew up in Montrose, Michigan as the eldest of 7 children, and later moved to

Tawas City, Michigan where she spent 40 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband

David Black. He preceded her in death in March 2025. Helen was a member of the Saginaw

Chippewa Tribe and was very proud of her heritage. She enjoyed photography and loved taking

pictures of nature. She enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, reading, sewing, and gardening. However,

her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are: Son, Donald (Brittany) Black; Grandchildren, Gavin, Eva, Nola, Miah; as well as

several siblings, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents and Husband,
