There are many Tribal organizations that recognize the importance of an historic perspective, the importance of maintaining the history of their organization and the Tribe as a whole and also, in some cases, the very great need to retrace parts of Tribal history that may be slipping away — or were driven away by outside influences in both past and present.

For example, the Ziibiwing Cultural Society has the organizational role of attempting to preserve the Tribe's history, as well as safeguard the Tribe's "future history" — safeguarding artifacts and traditions from the past and present for tomorrow's children.

Likewise, the 7th Generation program centers its activities around preserving and promoting today's living, breathing culture — safeguarding "future history" by increasing intra-Tribal and intertribal participation in active Native American culture and ways. However, there are many aspects of today's culture reflecting its historical roots, and the 7th Generation program guides Tribal members in how to use and incorporate traditional practices in today's life.

With our Web site, we hope soon to include a section dedicated to a Veteran's and Warriors group that has many local Tribal members (as well as members of other Michigan Tribes). They have stated a desire to share their history with you; we will make that available as soon as we can.
