Mt. Pleasant, Michigan The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways and their Exclusive Sponsor, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., present the first of four Artist-in-Residence Mentoring Programs Monday, February 7 - Friday, February 11, 2011. Kelly Church will lead the workshop and focus on Great Lakes Indian Fiber Arts including black ash basketry and birchbark biting techniques. The 5-day Fiber Arts Adult Workshop is $35 per participant.

Kelly is a highly-skilled woodland natural fiber artist from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. She is a black ash basket weaver, birchbark biter, and painter. Kelly is very involved in the fight against the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and educating the public about it. Kelly is an engaging teacher who has presented at conferences and workshops throughout the United States. Her workshop at the Ziibiwing Center will include making a round traditional black ash basket, a birchbark biting activity, and weaving a vinyl blind basket.

The Fiber Arts Workshop will be held Monday - Friday at the Ziibiwing Center from 5:30pm - 8:00pm. Space is limited. All participants must register in advance and be 18 years or older.
