For Immediate Release - November 30, 2009

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan  The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways and Exclusive Sponsor, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. concluded the 2009 Artist-in-Residence Mentoring Program this November. The 2009 Artist-in-Residence Mentoring Program was a great success for the Center. Four workshops were held focusing on four different mediums including black ash basketry, corn husk doll making, quillwork, and beadwork. There was an overwhelming response from the community for both the adult and youth workshops. Through these workshops, the Ziibiwing Center taught Woodland Indian art education to a total of 82 adults and 770 youth over the course of the year.

The Artist-in-Residence Mentoring Program is a complimentary program to the Indigenous Peoples Art Market and was created in 2007 to provide Woodland Indian Art education, technique, tools, and cultural instruction to the next generation. The mentoring programs included activities for classroom groups and adult workshops. The next Artist-in-Residence Mentoring Program will occur in 2011.

The Ziibiwing Center would like to announce the Exclusive Sponsorship of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. for the 8th Indigenous Peoples Art Market. The Indigenous Peoples Art Market is a national juried Art Show and will be held October 1 - 3, 2010 in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort's Entertainment Hall. We expect
over 50 American Indian Artisans from around the country for the show.
