Mt. Pleasant, Michigan The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways and Exclusive Sponsor, Charles Schwab, awarded over $16,000 to 24 North American Indian artists during a very well attended VIP Sneak Preview event in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort's Entertainment Hall on Friday, October 3.  A member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, Katrina Mitten's piece entitled "Indigenous" was recognized as this year's Best In Show winner.

The Indigenous Peoples Art Market held in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort's Entertainment Hall on October 3 & 4 is free and open to the public. Nowhere else in Michigan will the public get the chance to purchase artwork from such a diverse gathering of some of the most renowned North American Indian artisans on the continent. The event is known as one of the finest North American Indian juried art shows and art markets in the country.

Forty-one North American Indian artists representing categories such as jewelry, pottery, sculpture, paintings, drawings, graphics, baskets, and diversified art forms will be displaying and selling their work throughout the weekend. The artists featured come from tribes including the Ojibwe, Navajo, Mohawk, Sioux, Zuni, Klamath, Apache, Cree, Onondaga, Miami, Oneida, Seneca, and Menominee. "We have to compliment all of you on the level of excellence, the professionalism and the polish that was apparent in this show. It was far and away one of the most artist-friendly shows that we have ever been in," says Amalia and Leonard FourHawks of Florence, Massachusetts commenting on the previous Indigenous Peoples Art Market

On both Saturday and Sunday there will be artist demonstrations, song and dance exhibitions, a children's activity area, and many opportunities to interact with the artists. The Art Market will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 5.
