ZIIBIWING CENTER PRESENTS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES ART MARKET OCTOBER 4 & 5, 2008

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan    The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways is pleased to announce it will be presenting the 7th Indigenous Peoples Art Market on October 4 and 5, 2008 in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort's Entertainment Hall. The Ziibiwing Center welcomes to this year's event Exclusive Sponsor, Charles Schwab, a leading provider of financial services for individual investors.

The Indigenous Peoples Art Market is recognized as one of the finest North American Indian juried art shows and art markets in the country. Over 50 North American Indian artists will be displaying and selling their work. The master artisans will also be competing for over $16,000 in prize money in categories such as jewelry, pottery, sculpture, paintings, drawings, graphics, baskets, and diversified art forms.

Nowhere else in Michigan will the public get the chance to purchase artwork from such a diverse gathering of some of the most renowned North American Indian artisans on the continent.  The artists featured come from tribes including the Ojibwe, Navajo, Mohawk, Sioux, Zuni, Klamath, Apache, Cree, Onondaga, Miami, Oneida, Seneca, and Menominee. "We have to compliment all of you on the level of excellence, the professionalism and the polish that was apparent in this show. It was far and away one of the most artist-friendly shows that we have ever been in," says Amalia and Leonard FourHawks of Florence, Massachusetts commenting on the previous Indigenous Peoples Art Market.

On both days there will be artist demonstrations, song and dance exhibitions, a children's activity area, and many opportunities to interact with the artists.  The Art Market will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 5.  The 7th Indigenous Peoples Art Market is free and open to the public.
