The Sanilac Petroglyph (mazinaabikiniganan-Stone Paintings) is not only a place of natural beauty and wonder; but it is also a historic ceremonial site of our ancestors. Our people have been traveling to the Sanilac Petroglyph Site for many generations. Today we honor their teachings and take on the role of stewardship. We continue to host our yearly Summer Community Cultural Teachings and Celebration on these sacred grounds due to cultivating collaborative relationships with Michigan's DNR. We show respect for Mother Earth and recognize the important role we have as guardians of our sacred sites. Our guests and the Ziibiwing CenterĀ¹s staff members go to great measures to protect Asin (rock) and Shkagmigkwe (Mother Earth) while we are hosting our event. Due to the deterioration of the markings within Asin, there will be limited cleansing in order to protect it.
