For Immediate Release - Aug. 19, 2009
Mt. Pleasant, Michigan The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways presents a Monarch Butterfly Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1-5pm.
The 3rd Annual Monarch Butterfly Celebration will be fun-filled entertainment for the entire family. Children's activities, face painting, door prizes, and story-telling at 1:30pm and 3:30pm will all be part of this one-day event. Attendees will be able to adopt a monarch for only $1 with proceeds benefiting the Monarch Butterfly Tracking Program. The monarch butterfly release will be held at 4pm.
Fancy Shawl Dance presentations will be held at 1pm and 3pm. Women's Fancy Shawl Dance is sometimes called the "Butterfly Dance," because of the brightly colored shawls worn around their shoulders. Intricate beadwork and dresses match the shawls creating beauty in motion as these dancers perform dazzling footwork and spins. This event is free and open to the public. For more information please contact the Ziibiwing Center's Visitor Services Coordinator Yvette Pitawanakwat at (989) 775-4738 or visit our website at www.sagchip.org/ziibiwing.
