The Youth LEAD “Back to School Block Party,” in conjunction with American Indian Sobriety Month, led to one big celebration on the Reservation. On Thursday, Aug. 21, approximately 500 people attended the Block Party in the Housing/Broadway Pavilion.

Vision Statement

To engage community youth ages 0-24 to become educated, healthy, successful leaders and active members of society.

We do this through mentoring, support, and life skills development based on Anishinabe cultural values and healthy balance.


History of Youth LEAD

The idea of Youth LEAD came about as a need to consolidate youth services in order to increase collaboration, reduce duplication of services, and to provide a more focused approach to youth programming. In order to do just that, five teams from four departments were consolidated to form the new Youth LEAD Department: Behavioral Health Prevention, Education: K12, Education: Higher Education, At Large: Youth Coordinator, and Parks and Recreation. The programs were then reorganized to form three teams within Youth LEAD: Leadership, Activities and Diversion.
