District 1 registered voters will have a record number of candidates to choose from in the Oct. 9 primary election of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.

Sixty names will appear on the ballot, breaking a previous mark of 52 for the Dec. 1, 1996 primary election. For the past seven primaries, District 1 pollsters have had an average of about 46 candidates to choose from.

When voters head to the polls, they will be able to select 20 candidates. A primary election is only being scheduled for District 1. The general election for all three districts is slated for Nov. 6.

District 1 candidates include:

Voters in District 2 will have only one candidate, Connie M. Freiburger, to choose from. Five individuals will appear on the District 3 ballot for the general election, including Norman Fowler, Harold Gould, Thelma Henry-Shipman, Ronald Jackson and Sharon Skutt.
