Saginaw Chippewa Chief Maynard Kahgegab Jr. will deliver a State of the Tribe address during the first community meeting of the new year.

The event, slated for Jan. 26, will take place with a 2 p.m. registration followed by dinner an hour later in the Soaring Eagle Entertainment Hall.

Updates on various Tribal departments will be given, as well as progress reports concerning several projects include the residential treatment facility, K-12 school and Elders complex.

During last year's address, Kahgegab placed the utmost importance on membership charting the Tribe's destiny while also pledging accountability. He also emphasized community meetings as a way to foster community unity through communication.

"We're going to touch on some of the issues that the administration has accomplished," he said in a Dec. 16 interview. "That includes improving government-to-government relationships. The important aspect to remember here is that we have a council who will work for the people."
