There are many important people at the powwow: the Elders, who bless the ground and guide the people with age-old wisdom; the master of ceremonies, who is the thread binding the festivities together; the singers and drummers, who act as a living memory in keeping alive the songs and history of The People; and the traders, who are goodwill ambassadors and unofficial news agents. Even the spectators are integral to the powwow; they help carry the vision of the powwow to others and spread understanding and respect for the Anishinabek.
