Powwows are celebrations, gatherings and friendly dance; but like the thread that runs through all of life, there are sacred traditions to be found in this coming together of people.

In order for everyone to have a good time, there are a few rules to follow.

1. Please stand during Grand Entry, Flag Songs and all Honor Songs. Also, gentlemen must remove hats during these songs. No photographs are to be taken during these songs unless permission is granted from the drum. It is understood that for some, medical reasons do not allow them to stand for long periods of time; for these people sitting in a respectful manner is allowed.

2. Please do not take pictures during the retrieval of an eagle feather.

3. Ask permission before taking a dancer's picture outside of the dance circle, as well as of the drum and singers of that drum. Most will say yes, but if you are told no, please respect it.

4. If you have used alcohol or any other drug within the past 48 hours, please do not enter the dance arena even during the inter-Tribal dances. If alcohol or drug use is suspected, whether you are Native American or not, you may be asked to leave. Alcohol and drug use is not allowed at any time on the Powwow grounds or camping areas.
