Tribal Community Activities September 2014

  • Labor Day Picnic at the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Powwow grounds will take place on Monday, September 1st from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Food, raffles, games, prizes & fun! Bring a dish to pass and be entered into a drawing for an overnight stay at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort.

  • Tribal Operations and all related offices will be closed on Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day.

  • Attention teachers! Ziibiwing is offering American Indian Heritage Special - song & dance presentations and museum tours. Every Tuesday through Friday from September 2nd to November 28th.

  • Ziibiwing will host Grandparent's Day on Saturday, September 6th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Language Bingo will be on Thursday, September 4th at Andahwod from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Saganing is now offering Intake and Counseling appointments starting on Tuesday, September 9th and every second Tuesday of the month afterwards.

  • Traditional Healer, Donnie Dowd, will be at Behavioral Health on Monday, September 9th for a Men & Women's Sweat from 9 p.m. to midnight and on Tuesday, September 10th for traditional healing. Please call (989) 775-4850 for an appointment.

  • All SCIT Tribal Member Elders from all districts can enjoy a free Elder's Breakfast on Wednesday, September 10th & 24th at Andahwod from 9 am to 10 am.

  • Anishinaabemowin Family Fun Bingo will take place on Thursday, September 11th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Tribal Gym.

  • Jake & Mary Pine will be at 7th Generation on Thursday and Friday, September 11th and 12th. Please call (989) 775-4780 for an appointment.

  • Daughters of Traditions will meet on Friday, September 12th & 26th at Tribal Operations from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Grandmother Moon Ceremony will be held at Behavioral Health Lodge on Monday, September 8th from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • The 7th Generation Program at Elijah Elk Cultural Center will have a Climate Change Conference on Friday, September 12th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Ziibiwing Center is hosting a Monarch Butterfly Celebration on Saturday, September 13th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • The 10th Annual Peoples Traditional Powwow will be held at Elijah Elk Cultural Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 12th, 13th & 14th.

  • The Tribal Observer deadline for the September issue is Tuesday, September 16th at 3 p.m.

  • Women's Support Group meets Tuesday, September 16th from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Transportation, childcare and dinner is provided.

  • Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Elders can attend Bingo with Friends Trip to Saganing on Tuesday, September 16th. Shuttle leaves Andahwod at 9 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m. Please call (989) 775-4302 to register before September 9th.

  • A Housing Department Financial Workshop will take place on Thursday, September 18th at noon with lunch included at the Housing Conference Room.

  • Run on the Rez takes place on Saturday, September 20th from 10 a.m. to noon at the Tribal Gym.

  • Taste of the Rez Fundraiser will be on Tuesday, September 23rd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Andahwod.

  • Youth LEAD Department will host Celebration of Hope on Wednesday, September 24th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tribal Gym.

  • Anishinabe Performance Circle begins on Tuesday, September 23rd from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program runs for 12 weeks and there is a $30 cost.

  • Tribal Operations and all related offices will be closed on Friday, September 26th in observance of Michigan Indian Day.

  • Soaring Eagle Hideaway RV Park is holding a Chili Cookoff on Saturday, September 27th! Guests may make and bring their own chili.

  • September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! Sign up for a card and get a gift bag and/or use your card and get a bonus prize.

  • Struggling or need support? Residential Treatment Center –Behavioral Health is now offering drop-in relapse prevention groups twice a week. Mondays - 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays - 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • The Seventh Generation Program has a sacred fire lunch every Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Elijah Elk building on the corner of Remus and Shepherd roads.

  • Native Farmer's Market meets on the corner of Broadway and Leaton every Wednesday until October from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Lacrosse practice is every Wednesday and Thursday and starts at 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the field behind the Public Safety building.

  • Anishinaabe Ogitchedaw Veterans Society meets the first Tuesday of the month in the Senior's Room of Tribal Operation from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Anishinaabe Language Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 7 pm.

  • Lunch Bunch meets every Wednesday from noon to 1 pm at the Language Center.

  • Enjoy Open Gym on Wednesdays at the Tribal Gym from 6 pm to 9 pm.

  • Women's Traditions is held at Behavioral Health on Mondays from 5 pm to 6:30 pm.

  • Keyboarding and Learnkey is held on Tuesday from 2 pm to 4 pm and on Friday from 10 am to noon at the IT department.
