MIIBS ANNOUNCE PRESS CONFERENCE
The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan is announcing that members ofthe Mt.
Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School, MIIBS, committee have scheduled a press
conference for Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. on the front lawn of the MIIBS
building located on Crawford Road, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
An Honoring, Healing & Remembering Day will be held at the boarding school site on
Thursday, June 6, 2013. A Sunrise Ceremony will start the day at 7 a.m. at Mission
Cemetery off Bamber road. Events for the day include a Silent Auction, Student Roll
Call "Remembering the Deceased", an Eagle Staff Run (four mile run and one mile walk)
will take place with Spirit Runners. Spirit runners are those who will carry a name of a
child who died while attending the school. Research shows that there are over 200
children who died during the school era of 1890's to 1930's. Guest speakers include
Canada's First Nation's Walpole Island Residential School Survivor's Panel. The day
will end with a Jingle Dress Healing Dance and Celebratory Round Dance. This event is
open to the public and will include breakfast and lunch.
