Ambs, Jr., Roger H. "Chief" "Butch" Des Moines, IA Formerly of Kalamazoo, MI Roger Harry Ambs, Jr., age 68, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Des Moines, IA. He was born on February 2, 1948 in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Roger and Christine (Peters) Ambs, Sr. Known as a man who lived life to the fullest he was an avid Harley Davidson Motorcycle rider, enjoyed car racing, especially his 1965 Chevelle and cherished his German Shepherds. Roger was very proud of his American Indian heritage. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel. On May 21, 1988, Roger married the former Sandra K. Thurston, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Kelly Doran and Andrew (Mary Jo) Doran; a god-daughter, Robin (Jim) Schrump; four grandsons, Jade, Tate, Davious and Dominic Doran; a granddaughter, Marissa Doran; a brother, Ralph (Alison) Ambs; in-laws, John and Ann Thurston; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Rodger) Bolen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12th from 12-1 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street where services will begin at 1 PM. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Texas Township.
