February 2016

 

 

Ziibiwing’s Anishinabe Performance Circle is now open for registration with the first class starting on Tuesday, February 2nd.

 

Honoring Our Children Initiative will take place at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, February 2nd @ Seventh Generation, Thursday, February 11th @ Tribal Gym  and Wednesday, February 24th @ Ziibiwing.

 

Traditional Teaching in Saganing will take place on Wednesday, February 3rd  from 11 am to 1 pm at the Tribal Center.

 

Language Bingo will be on Thursday, February 4th from 1 pm to 3 pm at Andahwod.

 

Walking With Our Sisters will take place on Thursday, February 4th & 18th at Ziibiwing for a Community Conversation at 6 pm. 

 

Jake & Mary Pine, Traditional Healers, will be at 7th Generation on Thursday & Friday, February 4th & 5th.  Please call 775-4787 to make an appointment. 

 

Tribal Children’s Welfare Program Affidavits are available in the Tribal Clerk’s Office.  The deadline is  Friday, February 5th at 5 pm.

 

Saganing Soup Days are as follows:  Friday, February 5th, 19th & 26th from noon to 1 pm. 

 

Ziibiwing’s Collection Showing of Smokey Joe Wood Carvings will be on display Saturday, February 6th from 10 am to 3 pm. 

 

Snowball Family Dance will take place on Saturday, February 6th at the Tribal Gym from 6 pm to 8 pm. 

 

All SCIT Tribal Member Elders from all districts can enjoy Elder’s Breakfast on Wednesday, February 10th and 24th at Andahwod from 9 am to 10 am.

 

The deadline for Andahwod’s Candy Grams is Wednesday, February 10th at 3 pm and will be delivered on Friday, February 12th

 

Healthy Heart Breakfast will take place on Thursday, February 11th from 8 am to 10 am at Nimkee Public Health Kitchen. 

 

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Library invites you to check out a Blind Date With a Book.  This program ends on Friday, February 12th.

 

Crystal Mountain Family Ski Trip will take place on Saturday, February 13th starting at 8 am.  You must be registered by Friday, February 5th.  Please call Parks & Rec at 775-4115 for more information.  

Andahwod will host an Elders Valentine’s Day Box Social on Saturday, February 13th from 12 pm to 2 pm.

 

2016 Tax Question & Answers will take place on Saturday, February 13th at 10:30 am and another session at 1:30 pm at the Housing Office.

 

Tribal Operations and related offices will be closed on Monday, February 15th for President’s Day. 

 

The deadline for Higher Education Tribal Scholarship Funding for 2016 Spring Class Schedule Submissions is Tuesday, February 16th.

 

The Tribal Observer deadline for the March issue is Tuesday, February 16th at 3 pm. 

 

Women’s Support Group meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Behavioral Health.  Dinner, childcare and transportation provided – next meeting is February 16th.

 

Stop into Nimkee Fitness to learn more about Tread’N Miles team competition starting on Tuesday, February 16th in recognition of Healthy Heart Month. 

 

Nimkee Public Health will host a Red Dress Dinner & Fashion Show on Wednesday, February 17th  from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort.

 

Bingo with Friends will take place at Andahwod on Wednesday, February 17th from 1 pm to 2:30 pm.

 

7th Generation Program will teach a Feather Box Workshop on Wednesday & Thursday, February 17th & 18th from 5 pm to 7 pm. 

 

A Financial Workshop on Social Security will take place on Thursday, February 18th at the Housing Conference Room starting at noon with lunch and a follow-up session at 5:30 pm. 

 

Sundance & Full Circle will have a film screening on Friday, February 19th at Celebration Cinema at 6pm; a Youth Film Making Workshop on Saturday, February 20th at Ziibiwing from 10 am to 4 pm  and a film screening at 6 pm.

 

Wilderness Skills of our Ancestors with Jim Miller will take place on Saturday, February 20th from 1 pm to 3 pm at Ziibiwing. 

 

Tribal Ops Employee Banquet will take place on Saturday, February 20th from 6 pm to 12 am in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Ballroom. 

 

 

The drawing for the Elders Raffle of a 55” Smart TV, Waterpark & Spa Package and a $400 Visa Card will be on Wednesday, February 24th 10 am at Andahwod.

 

 

K-12 Family Bingo will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd from 6 pm to 8 pm in the Tribal Gym to restock school supplies. 

 

Ziibiwing will host a Vendor Training on Tuesday, February 23rd from 6 pm to 8 pm. 

 

7th Generation Program will have a Medicine Wheel Teaching on Wednesday, February 24th from 5 pm to 7 pm. 

 

Tall Cop Says Stop a Community Drug Education Presentation will take place on Thursday, February 25th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort. 

 

Attention Adult Tribal Members – Migizi Economic Development Company has one vacancy on its Board of Directors.  Letters of Intent will be received until Friday, March 11th.

 

Kids and Culture 2016 will take place at Ziibiwing on Saturday, March 19th from 10 am to 12 pm. 

 

Parenting Classes for parents, guardians, grandparents, teachers of children 0-6 years old -  Love and Logic every Tuesday afternoon at Nimkee Public Health from 3 pm to 5 pm. 

 

The Tribal Clerk’s Office will be closed every Friday for walk in/desk services for Administrative Office Day starting in February. 

 

Nimkee Clinic laboratory and pharmacy are open at 7:30 am – 5 pm M,W,T & F and OPEN until 7 pm on Tuesdays

 

SCTC Extension Free Mahnoomin Class on Tuesdays from 9 am to 4 pm and Thursdays Field Experience (as weather permits) Instructor: Lee Sprague.  Starts January 11th to April 26th 2016.

 

Al-Anon meetings are held every Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Behavioral Health.

Struggling or need support?  Residential Treatment Center –Behavioral Health is now offering drop-in relapse prevention groups twice a week.  Mondays - 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays - 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

The Seventh Generation Program has a sacred fire lunch every Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Elijah Elk building on the corner of Remus and Shepherd roads.

 

Anishinaabe Ogitchedaw Veterans Society meets the first Tuesday of the month in the Senior’s Room of Tribal Operation from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

 

Enjoy Open Gym on Wednesdays at the Tribal Gym from 6 pm to 9 pm.

 

Women’s Traditions is held at Behavioral Health on Mondays from 5 pm to 6:30 pm.

 

Keyboarding and Learnkey is held on Tuesday from 2 pm to 4 pm and on Friday from 10 am to noon at the IT department.
