In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joins with the Youth LEAD Department and the S.C.I.T. Eagles as they compete in their last home game at the Eagles Nest Tribal Gym on Saturday, March 7th.  The 5th grade boys Eagles team hosted four games featuring Central Michigan Youth Basketball Association (CMYBA) league action.

The Harrison Hornets brought their “A” game and had the Eagles down by 13 points with 12 minutes left to go in the game.  Eagles Head Coach Bernie Sprague and Assistant Coach Paul Shomin rallied their team during a time out and the crowd witnessed an improbable comeback to send the 26-26 game into overtime.  The Eagles were resilient and confident playing “in the Nest” and ended up giving the Hornets a stinging 32-31 defeat.

The overtime contest loss against the home team drained the Hornets as they dropped their next game to the overpowering Mt. Pleasant Oilers 48-6.  The Oilers fast break and zone defense proved too much for the visiting Big Rapids North Stars as they took the third game of the afternoon by a score of 44-8.  The S.C.I.T. Eagles continued their final home game stand with a dominating fashion by taking down the North Stars in the fourth game, notching a 27-14 win.

Youth LEAD Organized Sports Specialist Lucas Sprague commended the Eagles coaching staff and the boys by being able to play the full 40 minutes of action and then some.  “Anyone that was at the Nest on Saturday can tell you how exciting that was … the boys left it all on the floor,” Sprague said.  “I heard Coach Bernie mention they need to get some stops and move the ball and that momentum carried them into the second game.”

The S.C.I.T. Eagles team huddled and gave each other high fives as the Queen anthem “We Are The Champions” gave the boys their due.
