Marlon Brando’s name was called as the winner of the
1973 Oscar for the Best Actor in a Leading Role, but it was
26-year old Apache and Yaqui Indigenous actress and
activist, Sacheen Littlefeather, who stepped onto the stage
and into the history books when she gave the first ever
political speech at an Academy Awards presentation.
