Isabella County Emergency Mangement Announces Refuse Disposal Plan for Charter Township of Union Residents

Charter Township of Union, in Isabella County, received an unprecedented amount of rain in a short period of time on June 23, 2017 resulting in severe flooding throughout the community. Many homes were flooded resulting in water damaged items. A newly announced Disposal option for Union Township residents is outlined below:

Union Township Residents Flood Damage Refuse Disposal Plan - Saturday, July 1, 2017

  • This is a one day program only
  • There is no cost for the collection -- Waste Mangement will be running the Route
  • Residents may set out items now, but no later than 7 a.m. on Saturday
  • Items should be placed curbside, without blocking the roadway or storm drains
  • Do not place regular refuse and recycling with the flood-damaged items
  • Acceptable items include, but are not limited to: carpet, padding, drywall, tile, wood flooring, furniture and cardboard *carpet should be cut and bundled in 3ft sections, drywall cut in half.
  • Weight restrictions -- Items should be less than 50 lbs.
  • Items not eligible for collection include tires, fuel-based power tools, anything containing Freon or fuel, and household hazardous waste such as pesticides and paint cans.
  • All flood-damaged items should be considered contaminated and unsafe for use and the Township strongly discourages scavenging items placed at the curb for disposal
