Tribal Representation on School Committees

This year the advocates will be responsible for sitting on at least one school committee so as to have a Tribal community voice. Currently, we have staff regularly attending school improvement teams and school staff meetings. The K-12 coordinator meets with the curriculum team for both the Shepherd and Mt. Pleasant school districts. We have also reestablished our Native American Advisory Committee which brings each principal and the superintendents from both Shepherd and Mt. Pleasant school districts together to discuss issues concerning the Native community and students in the public schools. This year the committee is focusing on bringing more appropriate, accurate, and up to date material into the libraries and everyday curricula of the public schools.
